Biographical history
Fue abogado y político de la Falange Nacional y del Partido Demócrata Cristiano. Presidente de la República entre el 11 de marzo de 1990 y el 11 de marzo de 1994. Senador en dos períodos, entre 1965 y 1973, y en 1973, representando a la Sexta Agrupación Provincial "Curicó, Talca, Linares y Maule". Presidente del Senado entre el 13 de enero de 1971 y el 22 de mayo de 1972. Aylwin fue muy importante la transición a democracia de un régimen. Durante su mandato, se abordaron temas delicados relacionados con las violaciones de derechos humanos cometidas durante la dictadura y se establecieron comisiones para investigar estos abusos.
