El ex ministro de Economía argentino José Luis Machinea asumió el miércoles 10 de diciembre como Secretario Ejecutivo de la Comisión Económica para América Latina y el Caribe, CEPAL. Machinea, quien dirigió la economía argentina como ministro en el difícil período de diciembre de 1999 a febrero de 2001, reemplaza al colombiano José Antonio Ocampo, quien asumió un alto cargo en la sede de las Naciones Unidas en Nueva York. Antes, Machinea fue presidente del Banco Central argentino y consultor del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo y del Banco Mundial. Fue designado para el cargo el mes pasado por el secretario general de la ONU, Kofi Annan
