Jean-Claude Trichet nación en Lyon, Francia, en 1942 Graduado en Ingeniería y Economía en el Instituto de Estudios Políticos de París. Entre 1971 y 1978 desempeñó varios cargos en el Ministerio de Finanzas. Entre 1978 y 1981 prestó asesorías al Gobierno francés. Entre 1984 y 1993 trabajó en Tesorería, convirtiéndose en encargado de esa repartición en 1987. En 1987 se integró como cónsul general del Banco de Francia y se integró al FMI y al Banco Mundial
